Swedish au pairs
Why are Swedish au pairs so popular?
Swedish au pairs are popular due to their good reputation of trustworthiness, language skills and their good nature. They are thorough when it comes to housework and loveable to your children.
How are Swedish au pairs?
Without being too general about different nationalities of au pairs, there may be some similar qualities that you´ll find in Swedish au pairs comparing to other nationalities. Swedish au pairs have probably just graduated; the age bracket tends to be 18 to 24 years of age. They view becoming an au pair as a safe adventure and a break before starting a career or continuing studies. Swedish people are generally high achievers and becoming an au pair is regarded as good experience.
The majority of Swedish people in this age gap who become au pairs are from good family environment, well educated (know at least three languages) and have good experience with children. Swedish people are said to be very polite (lots of "tack", means "thank you" in Swedish) and friendly. We may not be as relaxed and sociable as the Australians, but we are brought up in a cold Scandinavian country, but as you get to know a Swedish person the warmth of their personality shine through.
Swedish au pairs won´t accept a family treating them disrespectfully or letting them work as cleaners rather than as an au pair. They are pretty flexible when it comes to work and appreciate family time with the host family which makes a mutual au pair-host family relationship preferable.
